Shape deformation testing measures the effect a weighted load has on the shape of a specimen. It is the measurement of a specimen to withstand a permanent deformation and/or the ability of the specimen to return to its original shape after deforming. Deformation is measured as the percentage of change in height of a specimen, under a specified load, for a specified amount of time.

VE Optics’ DIC can be utilized to obtain curvature shape and bend angles after the thin sheet metal is bent into any curvature shape. In engineering, exact shape measurement is key, especially for the shape measurement of thin plates after stamping deformation. The DIC can be used to compare, audit and correct the results of Finite Element Methods (FEM), effectively providing the optimization design of sheet metal stamping products.
